Most commercial dryer fires start in the lint compartment or the exhaust ducting. Lint is extremely combustible, consisting of tiny fibers shed from cotton, linen, and synthetic fabrics. When airflow is restricted due to blockages, heat builds up rapidly inside the dryer drum and combustion chambers, raising temperatures past the safe threshold.
Furthermore, residues from organic oils, synthetic cooking oils, or improper chemical washes left on garments can spontaneously ignite under sustained high temperatures. Thus, proper wash cycles must always precede high-temp drying.
